CIP Ltd were approached by the Main Contractor for this project to specify a design build up with the Densiphalt system, for a new build recycling facility in Kings Lynn. The application involved both internal and external works where there would be vehicle movements such as forklift trucks with buckets scooping up the recycling waste. This application was a great opportunity for the Densiphalt system to demonstrate the full potential of being suitable for both external and internal installations, and to hi-light its performance characteristics as a hard wearing and extremely durable surfacing system. Its jointlessness was a big advantage for dealing with the ‘buckets’
The design for this project catered for forklift truck movements, which involved buckets frequently scraping along the surface. We submitted our Densiphalt proposals to the engineer, Fordham Johns which comprised a build up of 40mm Densiphalt, 100mm Heavy Duty Macadam Basecourse, onto Type 1 sub base material.
In waste handling applications such as this, Densiphalt delivers various advantages including excellent wear resistance preventing break up of the surface when subject to continuous scraping of buckets. The jointlessness in Densiphalt prevents waste from getting beneath the surface resulting in the system being completely impermeable to spillage’s such as fuels. The strengh characteristics of Densiphalt enable it to with-stand the weight of forklift trucks and regular vehicle movements. Therefore Densiphalt will not puncture, rut, deform or fail when sustaining heavy, frequent loadings and requires no additional reinforcement. Densiphalt is an ideal solution within waste disposal facility projects like Norfolk Environmental.
