Arriva Fox County Ltd, one of the UK's leading bus operator, specified Densiphalt as the ideal surfacing solution to refurbish their bus depot in Thurmaston, Leicester in 2001.
The depot in Leicester is very busy and heavily trafficked by buses and lorries as the depot is shared with a transport company.
The existing concrete slab had badly deteriorated over the years and there were many undulations and areas that had completely broken up that needed reconstructing to the full depth of the existing construction.
The options for the client to resurface the Thurmaston depot were very restricted. Arriva could have chosen a complete new concrete slab, which meant dig out and depose of the existing surface and reconstruct with a new concrete slab and that would take at least 7 days curing period before trafficking. This option would have caused much disruption for the end user.
An asphalt overlay was also an option and this would have been quicker than concrete and Densiphalt, but asphalt would not deliver the resistance to rutting, durability and fuel resistance required for performance that Densiphalt would.
Densiphalt was introduced to Arriva Plc in April 2001, when they recognised the possibilities of the system, not only for the refurbishment sector but also for the new build applications.
